As Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Turkey, I welcome every occasion to highlight the cooperation among postal sector players.
Communication has become more vital than ever and it is indispensable for world peace and cultural relations.
The developments in the communication sector in parallel with the technological developments are shrinking our world. In view of this, all nations are required to cooperate as for developing a common strategy on economic, political and social areas.
Since postal sector is a dynamic, challenging and independent force, 26th UPU Congress will provide the best platform for 192 UPU member countries to explore their common needs and to come up with effective solutions.
The Congress will also provide us with important opportunities for monitoring the improvements in the postal sector as well as ensuring communication security in the world.
As the strategies and decisions, adopted at Congresses do shape the future, Istanbul World Postal Strategy (IWPS) to be adopted at the 26th UPU Congress will also designate the future development of the postal sector till 2020.
Istanbul has served as the capital of the Roman, Latin and Ottoman Empires for many years. The city is full of reminders of Istanbul’s rich historical and cultural past, such as museums, churches, palaces, mosques, bazaars and natural beauties. Now this magnificent city is ready to host the 26th UPU Congress.
I am delighted to formally invite you to the 26th UPU Congress in Istanbul.
Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications
