The 26th Universal Postal Congress Comes to an End…
The final day of the 26th Universal Postal Congress –hosted by the PTT under the auspices of the Ministry of Transporation, Maritime and Communications since September 20, 2016- began today with the last Plenary meeting under the chairmanship of Chairman of the Board and General Directorate H.E. Kenan BOZGEYİK.
Following the final debates and voting on the structure of the Universal Postal Union, the Plenary continued with the announcement of the winner of UPU’s annual International Letter Writing Competition. The winner of the competition -with the theme of "Write a letter to your 45-year-old self”- was 15 year old Nguyen Thi Thu TRANG from Vietnam. TRANG’s reading of her letter about the refugee child Aylan KURDI, whose image washed up on the shores of Turkey was engraved in the minds of millions around the world, garnered an intense emotional response from the delegates in the room.
Following the award ceremony, the Plenary continued with the closing speeches of UPU Director General Bishar HUSSEIN and Deputy Director General Pascal CLIVAZ, both thanking Turkey for the hospitality shown while underlining the historical significance of the 26th Universal Postal Congress fort he entire global postal sector.
Chairman of the Board and Director General H.E. Kenan BOZGEYİK thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the congress in his closing speech. H.E. BOZGEYİK highlighted that the 26th Universal Postal Congress witnessed historical decisions and that efforts to carry the postal sector forward would continue after the end of the congress.
