The Ministerial Conference on 4 October, considered the zenith of the 26th Universal Postal Congress organized in Istanbul since 20 September and to continue until 7 October, ended with a magnificent gala dinner at the Çırağan Palace.
Hosted at the Çırağan, a former 19th-century Ottoman palace overlooking the Bosporus, the gala dinner was attended by Turkish Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications H. E. Ahmet ARSLAN, Post and Telegraph Organization Corporation Chairman of Board and Director-General H. E. Kenan BOZGEYİK and Universal Postal Union Director-General Bishar HUSSEIN. The gala dinner marked the end of the Ministerial Conference, which was attended by 31 ministers and 23 deputy ministers and during which important subjects such as the future of the post, post-government collaboration and the role of the post in realizing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals were on the agenda.
The guests were welcomed to the dinner area with a live performance of mehter, Ottoman military band. Afterwards, a very special ebru, the art of marbling, exhibition was held before the gala dinner began. Inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List and a unique Turkish art, ebru is the mastership of painting on water.
Following the ebru performance, Minister H. E. ARSLAN and Director-General H. E. HUSSEIN delivered brief speeches on the importance of the Ministerial Conference and the 26th Universal Postal Congress.
Guests were offered delicacies of the Turkish cuisine during the gala dinner and were entertained by live performances of the qanun and the clarinet. These two idiosyncratic musical instruments offered the guests a taste of Turkish music and added even more magic to the lovely atmosphere at the Çırağan, a true masterpiece of architecture.
Best known for winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003, Turkish singer Sertab Erener performed at the gala dinner and enlivened the night with her magnificent voice.
Having spent a once in a lifetime evening at the Çırağan, the guests enjoyed the Turkish hospitality to the fullest and left the gala dinner well satisfied.
